Gardaí seized €30 million worth of Bitcoin following a major operation by the Bureau of Criminal Assets (CAB), supported by Europol. This marks the first time CAB accessed any of the 12 virtual wallets containing a total of 6,000 Bitcoins, originally confiscated seven years ago. The unlocking of one wallet has raised hopes of accessing the full amount, potentially impacting Bitcoin asset values. During the operation, approximately 500 Bitcoins, valued around €60,000 each, were confiscated. The Bitcoins were linked to former cannabis cultivator Clifton Collins, who had previously hidden wallet codes in a fishing case.
