The history of Bitcoin ETFs has seen significant developments, especially with the launch of the first spot Bitcoin ETF in January 2024. iShares’ IBIT initially attracted nearly $100 billion but later saw its assets under management double. In response, iShares introduced a new income-focused ETF, BITA, which utilizes covered calls to generate revenue, charging 65 basis points compared to BTCI’s 99 basis points. While BITA aims to track Bitcoin performance and generate income, its competition with BTCI, launched in October 2024, presents challenges as BTCI has demonstrated consistent returns, attracting over $650 million in new investments.
