Bitcoin mining giant MARA (formerly Marathon Digital) purchased 1,000 BTC for approximately $66.7 million via the FalconX institutional platform. This acquisition follows a dramatic series of sales in Q1 2026, where the company sold 20,880 BTC for about $1.5 billion. Previously, MARA changed its asset management policy, allowing the sale of Bitcoins from its balance sheet. Between March 4 and 25, 2026, it sold 15,133 BTC, directing funds toward repurchasing $1.0 billion in convertible bonds maturing in 2030 and 2031. MARA aimed to reduce its balance sheet and prevent shareholder dilution, amidst record Bitcoin sales by miners.
