Metaplanet, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, elevated its Bitcoin holdings by acquiring 5,075 BTC for approximately $398 million in Q1 2026. This acquisition, completed by March 31, raised their total to 40,177 BTC, surpassing MARA Holdings, which holds around 38,689 BTC. Despite the acquisition, Metaplanet faces an unrealized loss of about 32%, with Bitcoin trading at $66,400 against a high purchase price of $97,593. The company continues to buy Bitcoin, viewing it as a long-term reserve asset amidst Japanese inflation. Metaplanet aims to have 210,000 BTC by 2027, relying on ongoing capital access and profitable strategies.
