Morgan Stanley Investment Management has filed preliminary prospectuses with the SEC for a spot bitcoin and Solana ETF, marking the first such offering by a global systemically important bank’s asset management division. Recently, Goldman Sachs acquired Innovator Asset Management, which provides outcome-based ETFs linked to bitcoin price movements. Other G-SIB asset managers are engaging in tokenized money market funds, such as UBS’s uMint and JP Morgan’s offering, representing more traditional blockchain integration. While Morgan Stanley’s application is early-stage, it has not yet disclosed the ETF’s exchange or digital asset custodian. Regulatory conditions are evolving, enabling greater bank participation in cryptocurrency activities.
